I am transparent and I stick, what am I?
Last week, I had this conversation with the Operations Manager in a large distribution center:
“So your Striqta® film only sticks on the inside and not on the outside?”
“Yes, of course… Why would you want to wrap a film around your pallet load that sticks on the outside? That is not convenient at all?”
“Well, our current film also sticks on the outside and that regularly causes problems and even dangerous situations… Just yesterday, my colleague wanted to pick a pallet from a high rack with the reach truck, but that pallet was placed quite tightly between two other pallets … as our current film sticks on the outside, one of the other two pallets was accidentally pulled along, causing it to drop between the beams of the racking and everything came tumbling down. Fortunately, no one was in that aisle at that time and nothing fell on my colleague, but this actually happens quite regularly and that is just really dangerous! In addition, it is often causing problems to our drivers when unloading the pallets from the trailer… because the film sticks so much, cargo is often stuck together and everything tears apart when you want to unload pallets.”
My kind request to all buyers at logistics organisations: please go talk to your colleagues ‘on the floor’ and ask them about their experiences with your purchased packaging materials. In practice, those “cheap” film rolls often turn out to be thrown away (partially) unused because the film tears or no longer unrolls properly and often sticks on the outside, resulting in the problems just described.
